Karatu District

Karatu District is one of the five districts within the ELCT Northern Diocese. It was established on September 27–28, 1972. The first parish leader was Rev. Gabriel Q. Bayda, who was consecrated at the Oldeani congregation, Qunis sub-parish, on February 4, 1973. The consecration service was conducted by The Honorable Bishop Dr. Stephano R. Moshi.

Karatu district has 15 parishes and 70 sub-parishes. According to the 2024 membership statistics, Karatu district has a total of 28,909 members, comprising: Women: 15,885 (55%) and Men: 13,024 (45%)

Karatu District has relationships with various friends both within and outside the country. These friends include:

  • Food for His Children Tanzania – supporters of the children’s feeding project from the USA
